The Canadian High Commission and the Guyana Press Association on Saturday concluded a two-day workshop aimed at getting the ground work started for the preparation of a Media Code of Conduct for Guyana,Cheap China Jerseys, but the State media boycotted the event.The participants of the workshop queried as to their absence and were informed that it was as a result of a deliberate decision to not attend.The workshop examined the media code of conduct that governed the press coverage of the 2006 national elections along with that of the Association of Caribbean Broadcasters, the code of practice of the Media Complaints Council of Trinidad and Tobago and that of the British Broadcasting Corporation among others.The workshop also benefited by input from Ian Alexander,Cheap NFL Jerseys Store, a Canadian Broadcast Policy Consultant,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, Lawrence Latchmansingh, a Democratic Development Expert, Dr Paloma Mohamed,Wholesale Stitched Jerseys, the Director of the Centre for Communication Studies at the University of Guyana,China Jerseys Wholesale, Wesley Gibbings,NFL Jerseys Wholesale, the President of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers as well as the two independent media referees that were in Guyana during the Coverage of the 2006 national elections; Wyvlon Gager and Lennox Grant.Following the two days of extensive deliberations, it was agreed that there is a need for the self regulation of media practices in Guyana which will not only set out the parameters within which the media will operate but will raise the professional standards of the media corps in Guyana.It was also agreed that a committee be established to realise the mandate of the workshop and prepare a draft media code of conduct which will then be advocated for by the various media houses for each to sign on to.It was also the hope that selling the idea to the State media will also be vigorously pursued.The committee to be established has been mandated to complete the draft by November 15.
